The hot streak of U.S. imports of hardwood flooring ended in July. Imports from China and Brazil fell 18% in July as imports dropped from yearly highs in June. The pace of imports from China has declined to 19% growth year-to-date.

Manufacturing employment increased by 37,000 in August alone. Year-to-date gains have reached 190,000, resulting in a total of 12,421,000 manufacturing workers in August. The average hourly earnings of production and nonsupervisory workers rose 5% over the past year.

But...

The EPA and Army Corps of Engineers have requested comments on the "Waters of the United States" (WOTUS) rule. The American Forest & Paper Association recommends a durable WOTUS rule but states that wastewater treatment and ephemeral waters should be excluded.
