U.S. Producers Say China Is Circumventing Antidumping, Countervailing Duties

Columbia Forest Products, Commonwealth Plywood, States Industries, and Timber Products Company have petitioned the Department of Commerce to find that Chinese hardwood plywood products with face and back veneers made of softwood species, suitable for decorative use, are being used to circumvent the recently issued antidumping and countervailing duty orders on hardwood plywood products.

EPA Formaldehyde Regulations Vacated

The Sierra Club won in court last week, as a federal district judge ruled that the EPA unlawfully delayed an Obama-era rule to limit formaldehyde emissions from wood products. However, the EPA will not need to comply with the court's order until it works out a plan for "effective implementation" with plaintiffs.

EPA Recognizes New Chinese Formaldehyde Certification Body

The U.S. formaldehyde regulation requires that composite wood products be tested by a certification body recognized by the EPA before entering the country. Now the EPA has officially recognized China’s National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment.

Researchers Conclude: No Causal Link Between Formaldehyde, Leukemia

An analysis conducted by Ramboll Environ, funded by Hexion, concludes that the EPA draft assessment and data published afterward do not show a causal link between formaldehyde and leukemia.

Timber Products Names Steve Killgore CEO

The Timber Products board of directors announced that Steve Killgore will assume leadership of the company on February 20th. Mr. Killgore has more than 40 years of experience in the wood products industry.

Effective immediately, HPVA Laboratories® has issued certification certificates for TSCA Title VI, the federal formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood panels, to Murphy Plywood and American OEM. Both companies are CARB-certified for all production.
